Overall Purpose of the role

The medical head serves as a key member of the China Leadership Team, contributing to overall business strategy and decision-making. The role leads Lundbeck China’s medical affairs strategy across neuroscience, psychiatry and emerging specialty/rare disease areas. As a senior strategic leader, this role acts as the bridge between global innovation and China’s healthcare needs to accelerate scientific leadership, strengthens patient-centered impact, and ensures alignment with global and local goals.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic leadership
  • Set the overall medical affairs priority for China, ensuring clear alignment with global medical direction and China business priorities.
  • Guide portfolio development, scientific positioning and lifecycle planning across all therapeutic areas.
  • Shape global strategies and deliverables by providing China-driven medical insights and unmet need perspectives to global teams, to ensure local needs be reflected.
  1. Medical planning and launch excellence
  • Lead medical planning for pre-launch and post-launch products, ensuring scientific readiness, evidence support and impactful communication.
  • Strengthen the scientific environment through KOL engagement, disease education, CME and advisory boards.
  • Ensure medical messaging, scientific content and external engagement remain compliant, accurate and aligned with brand strategy.
  1. Evidence generation and medical insights
  • Support Phase IV studies, observational studies and real-world evidence (RWE) activities.
  • Ensure evidence priorities reflect China-specific unmet needs, payer expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Leverage digital and data tools to enhance insight generation and scientific engagement quality.
  • Strengthen evidence-to-value communication to support access, guideline inclusion, clinical pathways, etc.
  1. Scientific leadership in specialty & rare diseases
  • Position Lundbeck as a scientific leader in neuro-specialty and rare diseases, engaging deeply with clinicians, academic societies and rare disease communities.
  • Ensure patient voice and real-world care pathways inform strategic and scientific decisions.
  • Build alliances with researchers, patient organizations and centers of excellence to accelerate evidence, access and disease awareness.
  1. External medical engagement
  • Lead medical interactions with scientific societies, guideline committees and key academic institutions to shape scientific positioning and support policy development.
  • Ensure responsible, balanced engagement with KEEs, investigators, advisory board members and other external stakeholders.
  • Support medical input to access strategy, reimbursement discussions and HTA submissions.
  1. Cross-functional partnership
  • Partner with sales, marketing, market access, regulatory affairs and clinical development teams to ensure integrated, compliant execution.
  • Represent China medical affairs in global meetings, elevating China insights and strategic opportunities, and serve as an active member of the Affiliate Medical Director team to work with global medical affairs leaders on strengthening overall medical affairs excellence and cross-affiliate collaboration.
  1. People leadership & capability building
  • Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing medical team with strong scientific and strategic capabilities.
  • Build future talent pipelines and foster a culture that values curiosity, accountability, adaptability and patient focus.
  • Instill enterprise leadership and continuously enhance cross-functional collaboration.
  1. Governance, compliance & medical standards
  • Ensure medical governance aligned with regulatory, ethical and internal standards.
  • Promote scientific integrity and responsible scientific exchange.
  • Oversee rigorous, inspection-ready processes across medical activities including material review, evidence planning and scientific interactions.


Role Specific Competencies

Required education, experience, and skills

  • Master’s degree or above in medicine, pharmacy, or life sciences; advanced medical/scientific degree preferred (MD, PhD, PharmD).
  • Deep scientific and clinical knowledge in neuroscience; rare disease/rare neurology experience preferred.
  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical medical affairs experience, including 4–5 years in management roles.
  • Global R&D or medical affairs team engagement experience
  • An inspiring leader with a proven record of driving change and leading organizational transformation.
  • Strong insight generation capability and ability to translate insights into strategy.
  • Strong business acumen, stakeholder engagement capabilities to shape internal and external decision making.
