SUMMARY:
Lundbeck Seattle Biopharmaceuticals (LuSBP) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Upstream Process Development (UPD) team as a summer intern, participating in upstream process development for biopharmaceutical products. The successful candidate will assist the upstream process development team maintaining lab readiness, maintaining accurate freezer inventory logs, preparing media and solutions for cell culture, learning aseptic cell culture techniques, assisting with bioreactor operation (250 mL to 200 L), documenting activities in an electronic lab notebook and using in-process analytical equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Communicate and collaborate with Upstream Process Development team members and other cross-functional areas (Downstream and Analytical Development).
- Perform cell culture laboratory tasks related to the lab readiness, preparation/setup, operation, tear down and cleanup of Bioreactor runs and shake flask studies.
- Measure samples on analytical equipment.
- Follow laboratory safety guidelines at all times.
- Assist in maintenance of lab equipment, cleaning, and ordering lab supplies.
- Record experimental data timely and accurately using an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN)
- Analyze and communicate results in written reports and group presentations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Enrolled towards a BS or equivalent degree in the sciences (biology, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular & cellular biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, etc.).
- Completed introductory Biology and/or Chemistry coursework.
- Attention to detail.
- Lift/carry up to 40 pounds unassisted/assisted.
- Weekend/holiday work may be required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Experience with aseptic techniques will be particularly valuable.
- Some laboratory experience or basic understanding of laboratory principles and techniques.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.
- Proficiency with various MS Office platforms including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
- Experience with electronic lab notebooks (ELN), scripting, python, SQL and AI.
- Experience with JMP statistical software
The range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Washington, if selected for this role, and may vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Salary Pay Range: $21-$26/ hour. Applications accepted on an ongoing basis.
