We currently have an outstanding opportunity to join our Corporate Business Development & Strategy (CBDS) team as Director, Search & Assessment to support the development of Lundbeck’s R&D pipeline and find new growth platforms.


This is a key role within the company, given the emphasis on building depth into the R&D pipeline over the next 3-5 years and broadening with new technologies though R&D collaborations, licensing and M&A. It is a unique opportunity to influence and execute on the strategic objectives of Lundbeck (Expand and Invest to Grow) and accelerate the transition towards new biology areas within neuroscience. Knowledge and experience of neuroscience clinical development in this role is preferred.

You will become part of an experienced business development team and be responsible for leading cross-functional teams that evaluate business opportunities from early to late stage independent of deal structure. You will scout for external opportunities; lead scientific due diligences; conduct global commercial assessments; build internal and external relationships and be an ambassador with respect to executing Lundbeck’s growth aspirations to become ’the partner of choice’ for neuroscience within the biopharmaceutical industry. The role will have significant exposure across R&D, decision-making committees, and Executive Management.


The BD&L team is responsible for our external innovation strategy, scouting activities and prioritization of targets to pursue. At all times, the team will be exploring a pipeline of BD opportunities through a well-established stage-gated assessment process and ensuring cross-functional alignment.


The CBDS team in Lundbeck consist of 15 people, with the majority of your colleagues located in corporate HQ in Copenhagen, Denmark. The BD&L team work closely with colleagues across CBDS for commercial assessments, valuations and negotiations when maturing BD cases.

Most of the Executive Management and our R&D organization is also located in Copenhagen. We are prepared to be flexible in terms of the transition period to this location. Some travel will be required as part of the role.



Highlights from responsibilities

  • Search, identify and evaluate unique opportunities that complement our strategy, particularly in the clinical development phase
  • Build a strong and effective external network within the neuroscience eco-system, to ensure early visibility and access to emerging new innovation
  • Communicate with potential external partners and be an ambassador of Lundbeck
  • Provide project leadership on BD opportunities that are being assessed for scientific and commercial attractiveness
  • Collaborate and effectively manage cross-functional teams (and external resources when necessary) to ensure the highest rigor is applied for decision making
  • Constantly monitor, analyze and provide timely insight into neuroscience developments and maintain a partnering landscape  
  • Support other business development related activities, such as out-licensing and support to internal R&D strategic workstreams




  • Advanced degree in Lifesciences and/or Medicine (PhD or MD level)
  • Industry experience within the pharmaceutical R&D or medical areas
  • Preference for scientific insight within neuroscience, rare diseases or neuro-immunology/inflammation and adjacent areas from a clinical perspective
  • Experienced project leader, able to manage parallel projects with high exposure to senior management
  • Preference for BD relevant experience in the life sciences and/or consulting sector, including experience with evaluating business opportunities
  • Strategic mindset and ability to engage the organization and clearly articulate the value proposition for diverse and changing business opportunities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all layers of management and liaise cross-functionally
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, proven ability to develop relationships with internal stakeholders and industry partners
  • Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical value chain with emphasis on BD, R&D and strategy
  • Possess a personal drive, a positive can-do mindset, instills trust, is outgoing and enjoys working in a busy, hands on, demanding and team-based environment
  • Comfortable taking on a facilitating role, which implies: Having the confidence to set an agenda, facilitate constructive discussions and maintain a constant overview of the different elements of the projects
  • Good understanding of competitor landscapes within neuroscience or adjacent businesses
  • Fluency in English, oral and written, is required
