Graduate in Corporate Business Development & Strategy (CBDS)
Are you looking for the next step to kick-start your transition from being a student to becoming a young professional within one of the most dynamic departments in Lundbeck? Then join our Lundbeck Graduate Program 2021.
Lundbeck offers a great workplace that is based on a flat structure, and a collaborative working environment based on respect and equality. We employ dedicated colleagues and encourage continuous development. Together, we create the ideal conditions for you and your job, so we can create better conditions for patients.
As part of your two-year graduate journey at Lundbeck you will be exposed to various parts of the business and encounter many exciting challenges across the company. The learning curve will be steep, and we expect a lot from you, but in return we offer a program that will empower you to grow both on a professional and personal level.
Corporate Business Development & Strategy at a glance
CBDS consists of 15 people, where 12 are located at our Headquarters in Valby, Copenhagen, and three are in the US and Japan. We are organized in two teams; a Search and Assessment team and a Transactions and Alliance management team that work closely together on all projects. We are a highly diverse group of people ranging from PhDs in Human Biology to experts with Financial and Commercial degrees.
In CBDS, we drive all processes when it comes to Business Development: From first scientific interest to Due Diligence and subsequent contract negotiations and signing. Other peers have specific “Execution Departments” sometimes anchored in Finance/Legal, but at Lundbeck, we get to finish what we start, including negotiation and contracting. Deals range from university collaborations to comprehensive partnerships to bigger company acquisitions.
Below is an overview of some of our areas of responsibility:
- Continuously monitor and assess new inorganic growth opportunities throughout the value chain
- Secure cross-functional alignment for execution of Business Development strategic objectives
- Provide strategic input to Executive Management, Board of Directors and other management bodies (e.g. R&D management)
- Network with pharma, biotech and academic organizations
- Continue to position Lundbeck as an attractive partner
- Drive the Business Development process with respect to out-licensing of selected Lundbeck assets
- Maintain / optimize current partnerships and alliances
- Drive the portfolio assessment of internal pipeline candidates
Your job and the journey
As a graduate in CBDS you will be introduced to a wide range of tasks touching upon the areas of responsibilities listed above and you will also get a solid understanding of and interactions with a large part of the pharma value chain. You will be exposed to all of our tasks in CBDS, from the initial science-focused search and assessment to the more commercially driven business case development, portfolio assessment and alliance management, where you will play a key role in the projects and the deliverables to Management.
During the two-year journey you will undertake rotations outside CBDS, in relevant departments such as Commercial Operations, either in Valby or the US, Finance, Medical Affairs and R&D – all departments which play an important role in the more than 100 in-organic growth opportunities CBDS assesses each year.
You will develop skills within areas such as scientific assessment, commercial forecasting, business case building, and scoping and structuring PowerPoint presentations. You will learn stakeholder management, how to get the best out of people providing input to the business cases and how to maneuver in a fun and hectic environment. Furthermore, you will work with people at all levels in the organization – including Executive Management – and build a solid network of world-class colleagues.
During the program you will participate in a wide range of development activities on your own as well as with other graduates - everything designed to guide you through the program, making sure you are on track and able to unfold your potential.
