Are you looking for the next step to kick-start your transition from being a student to becoming a young professional within one of the most dynamic departments in Lundbeck? Then we have the Graduate Programme for you.

As part of your two-year graduate journey at Lundbeck you will be exposed to a substantial amount of diverse and complex tasks working together with a very ambitious group of people. You will play an important part in the many in-organic growth opportunities CBDS leads including the assessment and presentation to Executive Management. You will be exposed to many – and very diverse – departments whom CBDS collaborates with in the quest to find the right opportunities for Lundbeck to invest in.

The learning curve will be steep and we expect a lot from you, but in return we offer a programme that will empower you to grow both on a professional and personal level.

Corporate Business Development & Strategy at a glance

We are 12 people in CBDS (with the expectations to expand with 2-3 people in 2019) where 9 people are located at our Headquarters in Valby, Copenhagen and 3 people in the US. We are a highly diverse group of people ranging from PhDs in Human Biology to experts with Financial and Commercial degrees.

In CBDS, we drive all processes when it comes to Business Development: From first initial scientific interest to Due Diligence and thereafter contract preparation and signing. Other peers have specific “Execution Departments” sometimes localized in Finance/Legal but in Lundbeck we finish what we started including negotiation and contracting. Deals range from university collaborations to comprehensive partnership collaborations to bigger company acquisitions.

Below is an overview of some of our areas of responsibility:

  • Continuously monitor and assess the Central Nervous System (CNS) space for new inorganic growth opportunities throughout the value chain
  • Secure cross-functional alignment for execution of Business Development strategic objectives
  • Provide strategic input to Executive Management, Board of Directors and other management bodies (e.g. R&D management)
  • Network with pharma, biotech and academic organizations
  • Continue to position Lundbeck as an attractive partner
  • Drive the Business Development process with respect to out-licensing of selected Lundbeck assets
  • Maintain / optimize current partnerships and alliances incl. re-negotiate and terminate existing partnering contracts
  • Drive the portfolio assessment of internal pipeline candidates

Your job and the journey

As a graduate in CBDS you will be introduced to a wide range of tasks touching upon the above listed areas of responsibility and you will also get a solid understanding and interaction of relevant departments/functions outside of CBDS as we have a significant amount of interactions with these units. You will become a member of the team when it comes to Business Case assessments including building business cases, presentation preparation to Executive Management and the Board of Directors etc. You will also be involved in various Portfolio Management tasks including evaluation of internal pipeline candidates.

During the 2-year journey you will undertake rotations outside CBDS, in relevant departments such as Commercial Operations (Global Marketing), Medical Affairs and R&D – all departments which play an important role in the more than 100 in-organic growth opportunities CBDS assesses each year.

You will develop skills within areas such as scientific assessment, commercial forecasting, business case building, presentation scoping and building. You will learn how to stakeholder manage, how to get the best out of people providing input to the business case and how to maneuver in a very hectic environment. Furthermore, you will work with people at all levels in the organization – including the Executive Management - and build a solid network of world-class colleagues.

During the programme you will also participate in a wide range of development activities on your own as well as with other graduates - everything designed to guide you through the programme, making sure you are on track and able to unfold your potential.

Our preferred graduate has the following qualifications:

  • You have a Master’s degree in a relevant field (Science and/or Business) with a maximum of one year post-academic work experience
  • Your academic achievements are above average and your English language skills are excellent; a second non- Scandinavian language is an asset
  • You possess good business understanding and an interest in the pharma industry
  • You are hands-on but also able to think strategically
  • You have a global mind-set and the ability to work in a multi-cultural and at times very hectic environment
  • You are highly ambitious and push yourself to achieve results
  • You are eager to learn, contribute and apply knowledge
  • You build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
  • You actively seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels
  • You adapt your approach and demeanour in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations
