We are looking for an enthusiastic protein chemist with interest in antibody engineering to join Antibody Engineering and Biochemistry team that is a part of the Biotherapeutic Discovery function area. In Biotherapeutic Discovery we drive all antibody centric aspects and project activities related to the discovery and optimization of biologic based drug candidates within Lundbeck’s research portfolio. An essential part hereof is to proactively engage with the project teams with the ambition to deliver optimal antibody drug candidates. Biotherapeutic Discovery is accountable for the overall molecule quality and the focus of this opportunity is antibody engineering comprising humanization, affinity maturation, multi-domain formats, and assessment of the overall drug ability properties.



Your job and key responsibilities

The successful candidate will join the Antibody Engineering and Biochemistry team with focus on antibody engineering activities. You will be expected to contribute to the scientific discussions and execution of antibody humanization and affinity maturation activities through classical random and structural guided library approaches as well as exploring the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence approaches. As we are exploring various bi-specific antibody formats to enhance the overall biological activity, optimization of the design these alternative formats as well as Fc engineering is also within the role responsibility.   

Through direct participation in cross organization project teams you will be responsible for design and execution of all our antibody engineering activities to discover the optimal antibody drug candidate and ensure the final lead is qualified for preclinical development on all parameters.  The experimental activities are executed both internally as well as externally through CROs.


Key responsibilities are:

  1. Strong focus and interest in antibody engineering
  2. Develop and execute the research plans on affinity maturation, humanization, V-gene sequence liability elimination
  3. Optimization of bi-specific antibody formats with drug product in mind
  4. Integrate novel principles as artificial intelligence, CDR humanization, structural prediction into our antibody drug discovery process
  5. Affinity measurements by SPR and similar methods
  6. Execute project though outsourcing and contribute to our CRO strategies 
  7. Pro-active participation in research projects


This is a key scientist role within Antibody Engineering and Biochemistry with opportunity for significant impact on multiple drug discovery programs for the ambitious protein chemist with interest in antibody engineering.

Our preferred candidate has the following professional and personal qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Biochemistry, Protein Chemistry or related discipline
  • Industrial experience with antibody engineering and preclinical development is preferred
  • Interest in preferable some experience with:
    • V gene genetics from all species relevant for antibody drug discovery
    • Humanization and affinity maturation
    • Fc engineering for effector function and PK modulation  
    • Bi-specific formats and engineering hereof
    • Determination of antibody affinity by SPR
  • Ambition to have cross-project impact on Lundbeck’s antibody discovery project pipeline
  • Efficient, goal oriented and independent work style with flexible mind-set.
  • Team player with strong collaboration and communication skills.
