Scientific Data Engineer - Preclinical Neuroscience
Copenhagen, Danish Capital Region, DK
Scientific Data Engineer – Preclinical Neuroscience
Do you enjoy building scalable data solutions and workflows? Does applying your data engineering skills across bioinformatics and in vivo neuroscience data – from gene expression and omics data to electrophysiology and behavior – sound like an exciting prospect? Then you could be our new Scientific Data Engineer to join our preclinical Neuroscience area!
Your new role
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of neuroscience, data engineering, and next-generation drug discovery for people living with brain diseases. Working across in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo domains, you will play a key role in shaping how diverse preclinical data is captured, structured, analyzed, and made accessible across the organization. Your work will directly enable scientists to generate insights that advance both early- and late-stage drug discovery projects in our portfolio.
Your future team
You will reside in the Department of Single Cell Pharmacology & Bioinformatics within the Neuroscience organization, where you will join a team of experienced bioinformaticians, wet-lab scientists, technicians and students. In this role, you will also work closely with the in vivo neuroscience area, specifically the Department of Data Acquisition Systems and Analytics, thereby contributing to data engineering solutions across both in vitro and in vivo domains. Across the Neuroscience area, we share a strong collaborative spirit, mutual respect, and a focus on scientific discovery, while also having engaging, varied, and fun workdays.
Together with the rest of the Neuroscience organization, we are responsible for the biological research at Lundbeck and are focused on generating pre-clinical data and insight that are necessary for advancing both early- and late-stage drug discovery projects.
The position is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Fully remote applications will not be considered
What you bring to the team
- You have a master’s or PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or similar, and are comfortable with relevant bioinformatics and in vivo neuroscience data types that you wield with your comprehensive and effective coding skills (Python and R are the standard)
- Preferably, you have a solid grasp of fundamental biological concepts and/or drug discovery which allow you to contribute with innovative solutions to biological questions for our preclinical projects
- You have hands-on experience building and operating robust data pipelines in the cloud (AWS), including infrastructure as code (AWS CDK)
- Your experience includes working with complex scientific data sets such as omics, time series data, and large files (e.g., video or imaging), and you enjoy building reliable systems and workflows that enable others
- You are familiar with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Nextflow, Dagster) and containerized workloads (e.g., Docker) and have experience with modern data stack technologies such as Snowflake and dbt
- You are a collaborative and delivery-focused team player who is comfortable working across multiple teams and functions
