Scientist – Department of Molecular Pharmacology & Screening

Description

We are looking for a highly motivated Scientist with a proven track record within ion channels and molecular pharmacology to join the Department of Molecular Pharmacology & Screening. The department is responsible for the molecular and cellular pharmacology input to Lundbeck’s drug discovery projects in the support of the discovery of new innovative treatments for brain disorders.

We work on diverse drug targets such as ion channels, enzymes and GPCRs and apply a broad range of in vitro assay techniques; enzyme activity, cell-based functional readouts, radioligand binding, and automated electrophysiological assays. All assays are executed on state-of-the-art technology platforms with various endpoints and kinetic readouts utilizing a range of tip-based or acoustic liquid handlers.

The department resides in the division of Molecular Discovery & Enabling Technologies, based at Lundbeck’s headquarter in Valby, Copenhagen, and plays a central role in the identification, progression and optimization of novel drugs. We collaborate extensively with our colleagues from Medicinal Chemistry to enable structure-activity relationship in our projects and with our colleagues from our biology units to develop assays reflecting the molecular mechanism suitable for drug interaction.

Your job and key responsibilities

This role will support the ion channel drug discovery programs. You will be responsible for planning, conducting and evaluating ion channel experiments and reporting these to the department and the respective project teams. A significant part of the work will be laboratory-based focused on assay development, hit finding and profiling as well as understanding pharmacological mechanism of action. Much of the lab work will be based on advanced instrumentation and robotics for automatization of the assays. You will work closely together with technicians and academics in the department and be involved in cross-functional and multidisciplinary project teams, thereby contributing to the collaborative environment within Lundbeck.

We offer

The opportunity to join a team of highly qualified colleagues working in an open atmosphere with excellent development possibilities for scientific and personal development, and to work in a global pharmaceutical company dedicated to invent new medicines for people suffering from CNS diseases.

Qualifications

Our preferred candidate has the following personal and professional qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in molecular pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular cell biology or related area and 2-3 years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD degree in similar areas.
  • Hands-on experience with ion channel electrophysiological experiments ideally using automated electrophysiology (Sophion Qpatch or similar).
  • Excellent ion channel and molecular pharmacology understanding.
  • Genuine interest in laboratory work.
  • Flair for handling advanced instrumentation and robotics required.
  • Experience with drug discovery is an advantage.
  • Efficient, goal oriented and independent work style with flexible mindset.
  • Team player with strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Fluent in oral and written English.

Billions of people worldwide live with brain diseases – complex conditions often invisible to others that nonetheless take a tremendous toll on individuals, families and societies. We are committed to fighting stigma and discrimination against people living with brain diseases and advocating for broader social acceptance of people with brain health conditions. Every day, we strive for improved treatment and a better life for people living with brain disease.

We have approximately 5,600 employees in more than 50 countries, and our products are available in more than 100 countries. Our research programs tackle some of the most complex challenges in neuroscience, and our pipeline is focused on bringing forward transformative treatments for which there are few, if any therapeutic options. We have research facilities in Denmark and the United States, and our production facilities are located in Denmark, France, and Italy. Lundbeck generated revenue of DKK 17.7 billion in 2020 (EUR 2.4 billion; USD 2.7 billion).
