Senior Scientist, Neuroimmunology and Neuroinflammation, In-vivo

We are looking for an ambitious drug discovery scientist with experience in neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation to join our efforts in inventing and developing novel drugs against debilitating CNS disorders.

The position

With your in-depth knowledge of neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation you will drive the development of in-vivo assays and models based on testable hypotheses, that allow us to link target function to disease biology in niche CNS patient populations. You will also setup and direct external and internal in-vivo studies using mechanistic and functional readouts with high focus on cross-species translational biomarkers. As a senior scientist, you will be working across the Neuroscience organization in close collaboration with other academics and technicians and contribute with scientific leadership and key experimental data and insight to our portfolio of drug discovery and development projects.

You will help to guide project paths and decisions and you will continuously seek to extend and further develop our scientific understanding of neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation and related experimental platforms including developing ideas for novel drug discovery programs.

The position will be based in Neuroscience, within the Department of Pathology and Fluid Biomarkers. The overall focus in the department is development of in-vivo assays relevant to disease biology and cross-species translational biomarkers.

Key capabilities

  • Engage in cross-functional project teams and drive fast and decisive project progression.
  • Direct and conduct internal and external mechanistic in-vivo studies using a broad range of in-vivo assays and models.
  • Articulate and test scientific hypotheses linking neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation targets to mechanisms for therapeutic benefit by small and large molecules.
  • Engage with scientific peers internally and develop close relations with external subject matter experts.
  • Be pro-active and innovative in bringing new targets, technologies and other initiatives forward.
  • Write scientific reports to support regulatory filings.

Our preferred candidate has the following professional and personal qualifications:

  • Immunology background with strong biological insights into adaptive and innate biology and the relevance for key pathological processes and symptoms in CNS diseases.
  • PhD in a relevant life science discipline with +5 years post-doctoral experience in brain disorders and immunology.
  • +3 years in pharmaceutical company research environment.
  • Extensive experience with developing and running in-vivo assays to interrogate inflammatory disease mechanisms with translational mindset.
  • Extensive experience with inflammation biomarker qualification including compartment distribution (blood, CSF, ISF, brain) in in-vivo systems using single marker or platform-based investigations.
  • Hands on experience of cross-species translational neuroimmunology is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of data science is an advantage.
  • Strong organizational and collaborative skills.
  • Strong communicator in English, written and oral.
