SUMMARY:

Working primarily independent in concert with management decisions and company policy, the Accounting Manager will assist in booking General Ledger transactions, reconciliations of financial records within the ERP system (SAP), preparation of Journal Entries and audit documentation. Other duties include: monthly reporting/analyses, product divestitures/acquisitions, data requests for tax preparation and ad hoc support for special projects. The Accounting Manager will also work with our external auditors during interim and year-end assignments, participate in internal control assessments, and provide recommendations on accounting treatments of highly complex business situations. The Accounting Manager will also train and mentor colleagues on various accounting functions, accounting standards, and review staff journal entry postings, supporting documentation, and integrate US and Canada workpapers for North America alignment. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Financial Reporting:

  • Maintains control over general ledger accounts and transactions
  • Reviews and prepares month-end submissions in BPC Consolidation system
  • Acts as a point person for any issues or questions from headquarters after the monthly BPC submission process
  • Assists with additional year end schedules and footnote disclosures
  • Prepares highly complex Journal Entries for a timely and accurate month-end / year-end close
  • Reviews and approves work papers and standard journal entries for accuracy in posting and application of principles according to accounting standards, corporate policies and tight internal controls
  • Coordinates review and resolution of financial discrepancies across multiple departments and stakeholders (FP&A, Managed Markets, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Group Consolidation & Reporting)

 

Accounting Research:

  • Conducts advanced technical research on accounting interpretations related to new business scenarios or changes in global standards
  • Analysis and assessment of compliance with our HQ Corporate Accounting Manual (CAM)
  • Formally documents research methodologies, application of technical guidance, and recommends alternative solutions
  • Meets with Lundbeck managers including Senior Leadership on new business processes and 3rd party contracts of the most complex nature to assess proper accounting treatment

Audit:

  • Supports Assistant Controller in planning the interim and year-end financial audit. Ensures the audit is efficient and results are communicated timely with no audit adjustments
  • Summarizes data for work papers in a well-organized format which is auditor ready to justify major movements in the P&L and Balance Sheet

 

Other:

  • Performs analysis and ownership of complex reconciliations, for example: Self Insurance, Deferred Compensation, and Leasing.
  • Issues management reports monthly which highlight trends, contract compliance, details of asset values (for example inventory, AR), completeness of accruals
  • Manages various special accounting and tax related initiatives (including profitability analysis on Legal Entity Restructure)
  • Alliance accounting and support including APA and Residual Royalty posting review and analysis.
  • Prepares executive presentations on major balance sheet movement
  • Works cross-functionally with departments (FP&A, Supply Chain) to accurately forecast balances and maintain supporting documentation
  • Provides guidance and functions as a resource for Accounting team members and general Finance team

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:

  • CPA
  • Accredited BS degree in Accountancy or related field
  • 5+ years progressive accounting or auditing experience
  • Outstanding organization and communication skills, with ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word an advanced skills with Excel and Power Point
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proven Analytical skills
  • Able to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-directed and hands-on

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Accredited BS degree in Accountancy
  • 3+ years Public Accounting or Corporate Audit experience
  • Experience with SAP accounting software
  • Pharmaceutical or manufacturing experience
  • Experience with IFRS or US GAAP

 

TRAVEL:

Willingness/Ability to travel up to 10% domestically. International travel may be required.
