SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Product Communications leads public relations programming and serves as an extended member of the cross-functional brand teams for select Lundbeck brands, develops product communications strategies and brand awareness campaigns, offers insights to cross-functional teams and the Public Affairs team, and engages key external influencers to drive results. In addition, the Senior Manager, Product Communications serves as point person for managing key issues related to the company, its business and its brands; proactively anticipates and prepares for issues the company faces; develops action plans and messaging; and counsels teams on appropriate communications strategies to mitigate business threats.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Product Communications

  • Leads public relations programs for multiple brands to strategically support marketing objectives and deliver results that impact business objectives.
  • Leads product PR strategy development and tactical implementation for CNS therapies.
  • Maximizes brand news, including regulatory milestones and data publications/presentations.
  • Manages external PR agencies to develop strategy and execute tactical plans across multiple projects.
  • Develops and implements creative strategy to elevate brands throughout the year outside of major news events.
  • Oversees development of creative content, such as press releases, infographics, videos and other shareable assets for external and internal use.
  • Leads development and approval of external communications materials through internal legal, regulatory and medical review.
  • Implements disease awareness campaigns, influences positive action, and engages as appropriate with patient communities, including third-party groups, individual patients and caregivers.
  • Leads strategy and content for communicating with key influencers online and offline; follows influencers and maintains updated database of contacts. Helps build relationships that result in mutual information sharing, amplification of Lundbeck social media campaigns, as well as driving awareness and advocacy of Lundbeck, its commitment and brands.
  • Develops and leads social communications strategies for brands in collaboration with social media colleague; drives PR programming via social channels.
  • Develops media relations strategies, seeking high-level placements across traditional and social media.
  • Maintains strong relationships with media; serves as company spokesperson in support of multiple brands.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments and ideas in the field of public relations and includes such ideas, and strategies in the development and execution of proactive public relations programs in support of Lundbeck and its products.
  • Collaborates with Lundbeck patient advocacy team when engaging with external third-party groups for PR campaigns and for extending reach of campaigns to the patient community.
  • Leads internal medical, legal and regulatory review of all product communications/issues management materials.

 

Issues Management

  • Leads Lundbeck’s overall issues management strategy; acts as primary point person to manage key issues on behalf of the company and serves as company spokesperson as appropriate.
  • Proactively anticipates and prepares for issues based on key priorities for the company and current healthcare environment, gathers insights from key business leaders regarding emerging risks, and counsels team on appropriate communications to address or mitigate them. Stays abreast of key brand and industry issues, and keeps the organization informed.
  • Works across the organization to capture input from company subject matter experts as issues arise and translates swiftly into effective response materials.
  • Manages the tactical execution of issues management plans.
  • Coordinates across key functions and with headquarters, ensures issues that emerge through social or traditional media are effectively addressed and appropriate messaging, tools and guidance are developed.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • Accredited Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in pharmaceuticals or healthcare Public Relations
  • Experience managing crisis/issues processes for businesses
  • Experience acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in responding to media inquiries
  • An ability to understand the business, build strong cross-functional relationships and interact effectively with numerous project teams, including external company partners, at all levels
  • Exceptional written (drafting and editing) and verbal communications skills; can adapt communications to specific audiences – in tone and content
  • Ability to develop and lead execution of strategic brand-related programming via social channels – including, but not limited to, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter; experience managing or writing content for social channels
  • Self-starter with strong sense of initiative, focused on results; able to work well as a member of an integrated team, but can also work independently with limited oversight

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • Master’s degree, preferably in Communications, English, Journalism or related field
  • In-house experience at a pharmaceutical company or other corporate environment
  • Experience interacting with external partners
  • Strong relationships with both local and national business and industry media outlets
  • Experience working in a Strategic Alliance with a Partner Company

 

TRAVEL

  • Willingness to travel up to 30% domestically. International travel may be required.
