This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and energetic team of qualified colleagues working in an open atmosphere in a leading CNS specialized drug discovery organization. The Principal scientist will be a leader of one or more project teams supporting the development of high-quality small molecule therapeutics.   The majority of the work will be lab-based, focusing on development of robust synthetic routes for the preparation of drug-like compounds and application of those routes to analog synthesis.



  • Development of robust synthetic routes for the preparation of drug-like compounds and application of those routes to analog synthesis.
  • Interact with and coordinate the activities of globally-dispersed functional area members and Contract Research Organizations (CROs). 
  • Define programmatic objectives and budgets in line with broader company goals and communicate project strategy to key stakeholders. 
  • Collaborate with other Lundbeck scientists to analyze structure-activity relationships. 
  • Supervise and foster the career development of staff members. 
  • Perform work independently, using databases and information tools to keep abreast of the medicinal chemistry field of interest. 
  • Lead and contribute to presentations, publications, and patent applications. 



  • Ph.D. in organic chemistry with 7+ years of relevant experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical drug discovery/development OR Master's degree in organic chemistry with 12+ years of relevant experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical drug discovery/development OR Bachelor's degree in organic chemistry with 14+ years of relevant experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical drug discovery/development. 
  • Experience in programs from hit-finding stage to candidate delivery.
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaborative skills in drug discovery with a broad knowledge of medicinal chemistry.
  • In-depth knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry problem solving.
  • Expertise in working with functional area partners in a matrixed fashion.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Both effective team player and strong individual contributor, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks and deliver high quality results under tight timelines.



  • Expertise in working with CROs.
  • Track record of successfully managing direct reports.
  • Experience in CNS drug development.



  • Some travel required to H. Lundbeck A/S in Valby, Denmark.
