Position Summary
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Epilepsy (Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathies, DEEs) is a field-based scientific expert responsible for executing the local medical strategy through high-quality, non-promotional scientific exchange with healthcare professionals and key external experts.
Reporting to the Medical Lead, Epilepsy, the MSL serves as a critical link between the external medical community and internal stakeholders by facilitating bi-directional scientific dialogue, generating actionable field insights, and supporting evidence generation and dissemination in alignment with the local medical strategy.
This role operates independently from Commercial and ensures full compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific & External Engagement
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with key external experts (KEEs), academic institutions, and relevant healthcare professionals in DEEs. Conduct peer-to-peer scientific exchange on disease state, clinical data, treatment landscape, and ongoing research.
• Contribute to stakeholder mapping including identification of Centers of Excellence, referral networks, and emerging experts.
• Respond to unsolicited medical inquiries in a compliant and scientifically balanced manner.
• Represent Lundbeck at congresses, advisory boards, and educational forums as appropriate.
• Support Phase III clinical trials by engaging local clinical trial site KEEs, including Principal Investigators, and Patient Advocacy Groups to build ongoing relationships and provide educational support,
• Engage with Patient Advocacy Groups (PAGs) on scientific topics in alignment with the Medical Lead and company policy.
• Maintain accurate documentation of field medical activities in accordance with internal procedures.
Field Insights Generation
• Gather and synthesize insights related to clinical practice, unmet medical needs, diagnostic challenges, and evolving treatment paradigms in DEEs.
• Identify evidence gaps and emerging scientific trends.
• Provide timely and high-quality feedback to the Medical Lead and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Contribute to refinement of medical strategy through structured insight reporting.
Evidence Generation Support
• Support feasibility assessments for investigator-initiated trials (IITs) and company sponsored research.
• Facilitate scientific discussions with investigators in alignment with company policy.
• Assist in identifying research collaboration opportunities aligned with local strategy.
• Support data dissemination activities in alignment with publication strategy.
Compliance & Governance
• Ensure all activities are conducted in strict adherence to local regulations, industry codes, and company SOPs.
• Maintain clear separation from promotional activities.
• Demonstrate strong ethical judgment and commitment to scientific integrity.
Qualifications
Education
Advanced degree in life sciences (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent preferred)
Experience
• 3-6 years of experience in Medical Affairs, MSL, or related scientific role
• Experience in epilepsy preferred
• Strong scientific acumen and ability to interpret and communicate clinical data
• Demonstrated ability to build trusted scientific relationships
• Experience operating in evolving or pre-launch environments preferred
• Ability to synthesize complex field intelligence into actionable insights
• Ability to work independently in a field-based environment
• Business-level English proficiency
