Pilot Plant Chemist
We are looking for an experienced chemical engineer/chemist to join Process Chemistry R&D, as a Pilot Plant Chemist in the Chemical Production Management (CPM) unit within the department.
As a Process chemist /engineer in the CPM unit you will be responsible for the implementation and the scale up of chemical processes to enable multi-kg amounts of development compounds to be produced safely under full GMP.
This offers a great opportunity to be part of a great team and to play a key role in supporting Lundbeck’s development pipeline (small molecules) and help develop new medicines to treat Central Nervous System (CNS) diseases.
Chemical Production Management (CPM) is a key component of Process Chemistry R&D, which is part of the Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) organization, where our goal is to support clinical trials through the timely supply of novel Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API).
Your new role
As our new colleague you will be part of the team responsible for the supply of multi-Kg amounts of development candidates to support investigational and clinical studies. You will be involved in many aspects of the development value chain, e.g. raw material sourcing, technology transfers, environmental and safety assessments, process implementation and GMP manufacture. As a pilot plant chemist, you will share responsibility with your colleagues for coordination maintenance and qualification of the pilot plants.
The role offers the opportunity to work closely with colleagues in many different departments, such as the analytical chemistry and the route-finding groups.
Your key responsibilities and tasks include:
- Implementation of new chemical processes in one of the CMC pilot plants.
- Planning of production, including coordination of analytical support.
- Qualification of new equipment and coordinating maintenance of pilot plants.
- Scientific support pilot plant technicians.
- Ensuring production is performed in a safe and practical manner.
- Contribute environmental risk assessment for chemical processes.
- Contribution to maintenance of Quality Management System and participation in audits and inspections.
This role offers a unique opportunity with impact on projects from discovery to commercial implementation of our small molecule Active pharmaceutical ingredients API.
Your future team
Your future team has a strong teamwork culture where collaboration within CPM unit and the whole CMC Area is vital to their success. The team is highly focused and uses one of our several GMP facilities to scale-up and implement new synthetic processes for the manufacture of novel Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) under changeling timelines.
The CPM unit, herein this position, is situated at Lundbeck’s API production site at Lumsås, Nordvestsjælland Denmark, approximately 35-40 min from Roskilde.

Our preferred candidate brings the following personal and professional attributes:
- Preferably, you have master’s in Chemical Engineering or a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, potentially supplemented by industrial experience.
- You thrive in a Team environment of shared goals and responsibilities.
- Excellent communication skills, it is essential that the candidate has a desire and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues and members of other departments. (Team player).
- Strong desire and a demonstrated ability to deliver practical solution.
- Enthusiasm for working under strict timelines and is goal orientated.
- Danish Language ability is a clear advantage.
